Light tanks overturned assumptions about Falklands terrain

The campaign's light tanks were used far more successfully than warnings about the islands' soil had predicted.

Notes

The force was warned that Falklands ground would not support tanks and that taking them south would offer little benefit. The Royal Marines nevertheless asked for light tanks and found them useful enough to wish they had brought more. Their performance challenged the assumption that an elite light-infantry formation should avoid protected mobility. The example supports the case for considering armored personnel carriers as part of the brigade's future mobility.
