Routine allocation would dominate command in a real refugee fleet. In this thought experiment, about 90 percent of leadership meetings would concern food, water, maintenance, labor, and production. Crop selection shows why: fruit trees consume vertical and horizontal space, produce seasonally, and require storage. Hydroponic crops can provide more continuous harvests, but they add water and nutrient demands. The series understandably leaves out much of the management of mining, fertilizer, dairy, and food production. In practice, phosphate stocks, harvest schedules, shuttle capacity, and maintenance could constrain nearly every strategic choice.
