Stalingrad was equipped for more than a single heavy-gun duel. Its main battery of nine 12-inch guns was backed by twelve 5.1-inch guns and large numbers of 45 mm and 25 mm anti-aircraft weapons. Air- and surface-search radar, rangefinding radar, infrared detectors, and sonar would support detection and fire control. Coral and Machta jammers added an electronic-warfare layer to a traditional-looking battlecruiser designed for the sensor-rich naval environment of the 1950s.
