Later-series firepower and sensors

The later proposal combined a fifth main gun, concentrated light anti-aircraft weapons, sonar, directors, and Gufo radar in a more complete fleet screen.

Notes

The later series added a fifth 135 mm gun in a layout compared with American destroyers. Quadruple 37 mm mounts and a pair of quadruple 20 mm mounts strengthened short-range air defence. Sonar, RM2 gunnery directors, and EC.3/ter Gufo radar expanded the sensor and fire-control fit. The hull form and clear arcs increasingly served the main battery and screening role. Capitani Romani cruisers provide a useful comparison because their design sat between a very large destroyer and a very light cruiser. These additions would have been valuable in 1939 and still addressed real wartime needs when proposed.
