After the 73-foot Vosper, wartime development shifted from new torpedo-boat types toward modifications of boats already in service. By this mature stage of production, another fresh design no longer promised the best return on scarce resources. Although thousands of coastal craft were built, only a handful survive, and many no longer retain a recognizable torpedo-boat configuration. Repeated wartime and postwar adaptation has made these lightly built vessels especially difficult to preserve in their original form.

Why new motor torpedo boat types stopped late in the war
By the late war, modifying existing coastal craft offered more value than investing resources in wholly new motor torpedo boat types.
