A larger hull with a multi-role weapons load

Greater displacement supported heavier guns, torpedoes, mines, and depth charges, although the full mine and depth-charge loads could not normally be carried together.

Notes

The proposed class was roughly 300 tons heavier than the Soldati class at standard displacement and about 500 tons heavier at full load. Four 135 mm guns replaced the earlier 120 mm battery. Its planned fit also included two triple torpedo launchers, 52 mines, two depth-charge throwers, and 64 depth charges. Mines and the full depth-charge load were usually alternatives because of their weight. The larger hull therefore supported a broader set of fleet and escort tasks while retaining strong surface armament.
