Chapter ยท 23:40-25:00

Landing confusion and the first fight

Rough surf, failing motors, and a poorly communicated change from two beaches to one divide the raiding force before the inland advance begins.

Notes

Rough seas, heavy surf, and failing outboard motors disrupted the landing before the Raiders reached shore. Carlson changed the plan from two beaches to one, but the order did not reach everyone. Oscar Peatross and twelve men landed on the original beach while the other 199 Raiders went ashore elsewhere. The divided force resulted from failed communication rather than a deliberate tactical maneuver.
