Chapter · 29:50-31:21

The landing force's methodical advance

Commandos and infantry advanced on separate routes, securing ground and flanks as they pushed toward Diego Suarez.

Notes

No. 5 Commando was assigned a separate northern movement that depended on finding local boats, and that part of the plan stalled when suitable craft could not be found. The main advance did not depend on that route succeeding. The 29th Brigade moved in successive bounds, leaving companies and other detachments behind to secure its flanks and consolidate captured ground. This method protected the force's line of advance while maintaining pressure toward Diego Suarez. The fighting still caused casualties, but the pace was sufficient to establish firm control of the objective.
