Four-inch destroyers widened Force K's daylight freedom

Lance and Lively brought four-inch anti-aircraft armament alongside Force K's two Arethusa-class cruisers. The pair improved the air defense of the group as a whole. That cover gave the raiding force more freedom to operate by day instead of depending entirely on darkness. Their inclusion was part of the formation's mission design rather than generic destroyer screening.
