La Terrible performed useful Allied work and sank several ships once the opportunity came. The limiting factor was timing: by 1943 the peak crises in the Atlantic and Mediterranean were beginning to recede. Sending her to the Far East would have aggravated an already difficult support problem for French machinery. Keeping her near North African French bases made sustainment easier and released other Allied ships for distant work. That practical choice reduced her opportunities for major fleet action.

La Terrible as a useful but late Allied asset
La Terrible could relieve other Allied ships after 1943, but she arrived after the hardest Atlantic and Mediterranean fighting and had to remain near French support facilities.
