How the L and M classes kept eight torpedoes while strengthening escorts

The L and M classes combined an eight-torpedo battery with extra depth charges and revised anti-aircraft armament.

Notes

The L and M designs reduced each torpedo mounting to four tubes while adding equipment for a broader escort role. They gained a second depth-charge rail, retained two throwers and carried more depth charges than the J, K and N classes. Extra pom-poms and alternative main batteries of 4.7-inch and 4-inch guns also changed the balance of armament. Eight torpedoes left them with a substantial surface-attack battery alongside these additions. By comparison, replacing a complete quintuple mounting with an anti-aircraft gun left the N class with five.
