Fujian's importance and Kuznetsov's uncertain successor

Fujian marks a visible next generation beyond the Kuznetsov lineage, while Russia's aging carrier faces an uncertain replacement path and demanding technical requirements.

Notes

Fujian demonstrates a further stage in the evolution from Kuznetsov-derived carriers, although much of its capability remains uncertain to outside observers. Kuznetsov is a complex ship designed for a role that later circumstances and available personnel have made hard to sustain. Late Soviet investment included specialist sailors and an emerging non-commissioned technical organization alongside conscripts because the ship demanded more than a large general crew. A carrier is a system of trained people, air wings, sensors, weapons, and maintenance rather than a prestige hull alone.
