Panokseon were maneuverable combatants built for Korea's coastal trading, fishing, and anti-piracy environment. Turtle ships used a related hull form with a protected upper structure, while Korean cannon gave the fleet a weapon suited to breaking ships rather than merely suppressing crews. The turtle-ship image shown on screen is a television replica, not a full-scale surviving reconstruction. Cannon conserved scarce personnel and allowed purpose-built warships to cover ordinary hired or local craft performing transport duties. Korea therefore fielded the part of a fleet system needed to protect local movement and deny coastal waters to an enemy, without maintaining a full expeditionary force.
