Konoe renewed his summit appeal on 6 September

Konoe told Grew he could travel immediately to meet Roosevelt even as the cabinet pursued its conditional timetable for war.

Notes

Konoe continued seeking a meeting with Roosevelt after the September decision to prepare for war if diplomacy failed. On 6 September, the same day Hirohito approved the decision on assurances that diplomacy remained the priority, Konoe approached the American ambassador Joseph Grew. He said he was prepared to travel to meet Roosevelt at a moment's notice. The renewed appeal places the effort to arrange a summit alongside the military timetable already accepted by the cabinet.
