Why Adriatic accounts are hard to reconcile

Uneven French, Italian, Austro-Hungarian, German, and Russian accounts make even mutually observed Adriatic incidents difficult to reconstruct.

Notes

Reconstructing the campaign is difficult because accounts survive unevenly across several national and language traditions. Even incidents known to both sides can lack a usable surviving account from one participant. Georg von Trapp's memoir is valuable but cannot carry an action on its own. The working rule is to seek both sides, or as close an approximation as the surviving record permits.
