Klas Horn and Klas Uggla expand mine capacity at modest cost

Incremental improvements kept costs down while increasing the Klas class's armament and mine capacity; Uggla's load at the disaster is not established.

Notes

Repeatedly improving an existing class helped Sweden keep construction costs down. Klas Horn and Klas Uggla enlarged the preceding design to about 1,036 tons standard while retaining a speed of 36 knots. Three 120 mm guns, two 40 mm anti-aircraft guns, six torpedo tubes, two depth-charge throwers, and capacity for 20 mines gave the destroyers several coastal fighting roles. By the time Uggla was lost in 1941, modifications had increased her mine capacity to 40-46 and added anti-aircraft machine guns and other equipment. That capacity does not establish how many mines she carried when the disaster occurred. Uggla was later raised and stripped of usable parts before her wreck was scrapped.
