Type 31 as the task group's defensive goalkeeper

The British Type 31 fit emphasizes short-range missiles and medium guns, making it a final defensive layer around a carrier or amphibious ship.

Notes

Arrowhead designs are named for their approximate length, with the Type 31 derived from the Arrowhead 140 family. The British fit functions as a flak frigate or goalkeeper near the carrier or amphibious ship. A 57 mm gun, two 40 mm guns, and a large short-range missile load can engage threats that penetrate the outer screen. Mark 41 cells can accommodate Tomahawk and other strike weapons, while the anticipated British load emphasizes quad-packed CAMM alongside some cruise missiles. That defensive profile also suits forward presence because it creates a substantial obstacle without presenting the same offensive concentration as a strike-heavy combatant. In a task group, its job is to preserve the protected ship after the longer-range layers have already fired.
