Cancelled variants and long gaps interrupt KDX development

The Korean destroyer program was progressive without being continuous: an Aegis KDX-II variant disappeared and a decade separated major Sejong-derived builds.

Notes

KDX did not follow a smooth production ladder. A proposed Aegis-equipped development of the Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin class was never built, so planned capability did not always reach construction. A decade separates the last first-batch Sejong's commissioning in 2012 from Jeongjo the Great's launch in 2022. Their related external appearance masks major changes in launcher counts, weapon arrangement, and internal fit. The comparison with the Hornet and Super Hornet conveys the scale of the redesign and the case for treating the ships as separate builds.
