Katyusha launchers trade sustained fire for mobility

Katyusha batteries could deliver the equivalent of a large artillery salvo and leave before enemy counter-battery fire arrived.

Notes

Katyusha multiple rocket launchers answered a Soviet need for concentrated firepower that could move across limited road infrastructure. A battery could arrive, release the equivalent of many guns firing together, and depart almost immediately. That shoot-and-move method made counter-battery fire difficult because the launchers no longer occupied the firing position when retaliation arrived. The system traded the sustained accuracy and operating pattern of conventional artillery for a sudden mobile salvo.
