Karlsruhe's aft six-inch mountings were offset to opposite sides. The arrangement concentrated six guns facing aft. Its design receives a critical assessment despite acknowledging that reasons existed for the layout. The Königsberg-class hull protection is also judged too light, with the criticism focused on its vulnerability to incoming fire.
