Chapter ยท 0:00-4:48

Kara as the last full Soviet cruiser class

The opening explains why the seven-ship Kara class looks more like the Soviet Navy's last full cruiser class than the later Kirovs or Slavas.

Notes

The opening distinguishes a full cruiser class from prestige or capital-ship outliers. Seven Kara-class ships emerged as a contiguous program from one Ukrainian yard, whereas the later Kirovs and Slavas were smaller runs with more specialized status. Class size, construction rhythm, and shipyard continuity therefore matter when identifying the Soviet Navy's working cruiser force. The Kara class provided a working fleet capability through a sustained construction programme.
