Kamikaze's stated range of 3,600 nautical miles at 14 knots is compared with Clemson's 4,900 at 15 knots. Clemson therefore offered another 1,300 nautical miles while cruising one knot faster. Its armament included twelve 21-inch torpedo tubes in four triple mounts, four 4-inch guns and a 3-inch antiaircraft gun. Boiler pressure of 300 pounds per square inch is also part of the machinery comparison. The Japanese ships' greater maximum speed did not erase the American design's endurance advantage for distant operations.
