Ukuru and the difference between reserved space and fitted weapons

Space and weight allowances for weapons could precede actual installation, as the comparison with later Hedgehog fittings illustrates.

Notes

Ukuru's equipment included radar, sonar and provision for a pair of Type 94 depth-charge projectors. Reserved space did not guarantee that a weapon was available to install. Designers could allocate both space and topweight for equipment still under development. Flower-class corvettes and other Allied escorts provide a comparison through Hedgehog-type systems fitted after the ships entered service. Planning those allowances made later additions part of the original requirement.
