Kagero's hull changes included removing weight from parts judged to have been strengthened excessively. Work on the plate keel addressed longitudinal strength and helped lower the centre of gravity. Thicker plating added strength to the lower hull. The changes combined selective weight reduction with reinforcement where the designers considered it useful.
