Jutland: a strategic victory and a tactical draw

Separating Beatty's and Jellicoe's actions explains the assessment of Jutland as a tactical draw despite Britain's heavier ship losses.

Notes

Jutland is judged a British strategic victory and a tactical draw. Beatty's part of the fighting is assessed as a defeat, while Jellicoe's two crossings of the German T count as tactical successes. The higher British ship losses therefore do not settle the assessment of every part of the battle. Ammunition quality and the handling of explosives are given more weight than ship design when accounting for those losses.
