Several British dreadnoughts missed Jutland because they were in dock or had not reached the required standard of gunnery training. Royal Oak only just met the minimum standard needed to sail with the fleet. As damaged ships such as Warspite and Marlborough entered dock after the battle, Queen Elizabeth, Emperor of India, and Dreadnought could return to the available force, while work-up of newer ships accelerated. The Grand Fleet is assessed as stronger two days after Jutland than on the day of the battle. Australia's return partly offset the battlecruiser losses, with Renown and Repulse still approaching completion. Germany had no comparable immediate replacement for Lützow and no spare battlecruiser to cover Seydlitz's repairs while Hindenburg remained unfinished.

Britain's reserve ships restored strength after Jutland
Ships in dock or still working up gave Britain replacements after Jutland that the smaller German fleet could not immediately match.
