Communication as Jutland's decisive deficiency

The review closes by arguing that better information flow could have let the Grand Fleet meet the Germans with its full deployed firepower.

Notes

Communication is presented as the battle's most consequential deficiency. Timely contact reports could have let the Grand Fleet deploy before the Germans reached it instead of forcing Jellicoe to locate, orient, and form his fleet at the last moment. In that counterfactual, the German fleet meets the massed firepower of a fully deployed British line during both encounters. The Germans already suffered substantial damage, especially in the later contact, so repeating that exposure earlier could have made their losses much greater. The closing comparison with logistics treats information flow as an operational resource essential to naval success.
