Jutland showed the value of British fleet depth

Britain could absorb three battlecruiser losses at Jutland while retaining a powerful battle line, whereas comparable losses would have crippled Germany's smaller scouting force.

Notes

At Jutland, the Fifth Battle Squadron stood between the retreating British battlecruisers and the approaching German fleet before the action reached the Grand Fleet. Losing three battlecruisers left Britain's scouting force damaged but still operational. Comparable losses would have reduced Germany's First Scouting Group to a battered remnant and removed a formation expected to join the battle line. British battlecruiser losses also left the main Grand Fleet's superiority intact. Even the counterfactual loss of Beatty's whole force would still have left the combined German capital ships outnumbered and outgunned by the British dreadnought force.
