Jeongjo's strike role raises a close-in defence question

A high-value ballistic-missile destroyer becomes an obvious target, so its Phalanx fit is weighed against RAM and layered escort protection.

Notes

Jeongjo the Great's Phalanx fit raises a close-in defence question after Korea's long use of Goalkeeper. Fewer navies now sustain Goalkeeper, which helps explain the industrial choice, but RAM could add another defensive layer. Jeongjo's ballistic-missile strike capacity makes it a priority target and increases the importance of terminal defence. Multiple RAM launchers alongside Phalanx would be one way to strengthen that protection. Its survivability also depends on the surrounding formation. A nearby Sejong contributes a deep defensive magazine, and additional escorts can add more layers around the task group.
