The Javelin's range does not guarantee a hit in a built-up area. Buildings can obstruct the firing path, so an infantry team may still need to move close to its target. The top-attack flight path is suggested as useful for this kind of engagement. A tank can nevertheless seek shelter in a house or use smoke and defensive countermeasures, so range and attack profile do not settle the encounter.

Javelin range and the obstacles of urban combat
Buildings and tank countermeasures complicate an engagement even when a missile has a long range and a top-attack flight path.
