January reinforcements fill the fleet's carrier and AA gaps

Indomitable, Renown, and probably a Dido-class cruiser could arrive in January to supply carrier aviation, modern fire control, and an anti-aircraft screen.

Notes

Indomitable historically reached the Eastern Fleet in January 1942, making her the least speculative reinforcement. A reinforcing vice admiral would need a suitable flagship, and the modernized battlecruiser Renown is the proposed addition. Renown, Prince of Wales, and Repulse together would improve availability, usually leaving at least one ship with modern fire control ready to operate. A Dido-class anti-aircraft cruiser, probably Cleopatra, could help fill the force's shortage of modern air-defence ships, with a second cruiser possible. Destroyers remain scarce because the Royal Navy is also sustaining Mediterranean convoys and other operations. Arrival around mid-January would give Japan a substantially heavier fleet to overcome.
