Izumi operated near heavier Russian ships during Tsushima but escaped with minor damage, aided by design, crew performance, and Japanese heavy units drawing enemy attention. Heavier Japanese squadrons responded forcefully whenever Russian ships concentrated on the cruisers. Izumi's division then escorted army transports supporting the invasion of Sakhalin. In 1906 she carried a former Japanese prime minister, the first Japanese Resident-General of Korea, to his post. Her 1912 sale for scrap for 90,000 yen capped nearly two decades of Japanese service after a purchase price of 3.3 million yen.
