The MAS concept was not confined to the Mediterranean during World War II. Italian boats operated on Lake Ladoga during the siege of Leningrad, showing how a very light coastal craft could be transported into an inland campaign. MAS boats also helped disable the Soviet cruiser Molotov in August 1942. Small-craft reach depended as much on strategic deployment and local waters as on a boat's own cruising range.
