The Turbine class combined 33-knot speed with four 4.7-inch guns and six 21-inch torpedo tubes, with provision for carrying mines. That fit suited a dash-in torpedo attack, but its guns offered too little firepower for fighting peer destroyers. The design is judged more favourably as a torpedo boat, comparable in purpose to German examples. Treating it as a general-purpose destroyer imposed demands its offensive armament could not adequately meet. Brave crews still had to depend on torpedoes because their guns lacked the firepower to defeat opposing destroyers.
