Italian defeats create a new southern front against Germany

Defeat in Libya and Greece could topple Mussolini in 1940 or 1941 and redirect Italian forces against Germany.

Notes

With Germany still committed in France, it cannot rescue Italy in Greece as it did historically. Defeat in both Libya and Albania could topple Mussolini by late 1940 or 1941 and push Italy toward neutrality or the Allied camp. Italian forces seeking acceptance under a new regime might join victorious Greek troops in threatening Germany through Austria. French formations formerly guarding the Alpine border could then move north, adding further pressure to the German army's extended front.
