Civilian trawler lines made wartime construction practical

Isle, Dance, Shakespearean, and Tree-class trawlers retained closely related civilian forms so shipyards could build useful auxiliaries quickly.

Notes

The Isle, Dance, Shakespearean, and Tree classes shared closely related forms derived from civilian trawlers. Yards already familiar with commercial fishing vessels could build those designs quickly. The same continuity limited speed, internal space, and other military qualities because the hulls had not been designed from the keel up for combat. The Dance class looked more overtly martial and could carry a shielded 4-inch mounting, while other examples commonly carried 12-pounders behind much simpler protection.
