Is there an ideal river gunboat design?
Short answerNo. Each operator needs a vessel suited to its own stretch of river and the tasks it must perform.
NotesNo universal gunboat design meets every operator's needs because river warfare changes familiar ship-design priorities. Romania operates along a much longer stretch of the Danube than Bulgaria. Serbia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany each have their own reaches and tasks. Sharing the same river therefore leaves them with different requirements for a monitor or gunboat.
