Inward-facing turrets make a particularly poor exchange between weight and combat value. Turrets, barbettes, magazines, and supporting structure consume scarce displacement wherever they are placed. An arrangement that restricts useful arcs still pays most of those costs while making the battery harder to employ. The result is an eccentric layout that maximizes weight for little or even negative tactical benefit.

Inward-facing turrets add structural weight while reducing the practical benefit obtained from the armament arrangement.
