Improved air defence would still leave Force Z with an inadequate force structure. HMS Indomitable's fighters might have broken up attacks on the capital ships and improved their survival chances. Yet a carrier, a battleship, a battlecruiser, and only a few destroyers would remain a small formation against the forces operating around Malaya. One carrier could not automatically save the campaign.
