Indian Ocean service joined intervention, escort, and rescue

Enterprise moved from convoy and Iraqi operations to Eastern Fleet service and the rescue of more than a thousand cruiser survivors.

Notes

In 1941 Enterprise joined British and Australian ships hunting the German cruiser Admiral Scheer before returning to Indian Ocean convoy escort. She deployed to Basra during the Rashid Ali revolt and Anglo-Iraqi War, linking sea control and transport capacity to intervention ashore. After Japan entered the war, she escorted troops toward Singapore and Rangoon and then joined Admiral Somerville's Eastern Fleet. With the destroyers Paladin and Panther, Enterprise rescued about 1,120 survivors from the cruisers Cornwall and Dorsetshire after their loss to Japanese aircraft.
