Independent research and borrowed conclusions

A research-method aside explains why a historian may avoid another creator's answer while forming an independent argument on the same subject.

Notes

When writing on the same subject, an independent researcher may deliberately skip another naval-history video's answer. The purpose is to avoid unconsciously reproducing someone else's wording or line of argument before the research is complete. Ideas developed jointly in discussion are distinguished from material encountered only through another historian's finished presentation. Independent analysis therefore requires managing intellectual influence as well as consulting evidence.
