Indefatigable shows the cost of sustained overseas service

Indefatigable's copper-sheathed hull, Caribbean deployments, Venezuela blockade service, and eventual exhaustion reveal the material cost of persistent presence.

Notes

Ten Apollos received wood and copper sheathing to reduce tropical fouling, a reminder that worldwide operations shaped hull construction as well as strategy. Indefatigable served on the North America and West Indies Station and joined the Anglo-German blockade of Venezuela as a visible British commitment. During the Mexican Revolution she carried Marines and armed sailors ready to protect British subjects ashore. By 1913 her hull and machinery were so worn by roughly twenty-two years of hard service that replacement was cheaper than rebuilding her for a minelaying role.
