Chapter · 5:05-6:43

A diamond battery backed by torpedoes

The Imperieuse class carried four 9.2-inch guns in a diamond layout, six six-inch guns, and six torpedo tubes for heavy fire across several directions and a serious close-range threat.

Notes

Four breech-loading 9.2-inch (234 mm) Mark III guns formed the diamond main battery, placing one heavy weapon toward each principal direction. Weight forced the planned ten-gun secondary battery down to six six-inch guns. The forward gun on each side could move to support fire ahead. Six 18-inch torpedo tubes added a close-range threat. Together, the guns and torpedoes gave a battleship reason to seek numerical support before engaging.
