An icebreaker, not a ram, for an Arctic conflict

For an Arctic scenario, hull strength and ice capability matter more than a specialised ramming ship.

Question

Could a ram ship help in a Cold War Arctic conflict?

Short answer

An icebreaker would be the more useful answer: it needs a strong hull for the ice, and it is effectively a ram in some circumstances.

Notes

The proposed ram ship is reframed around its operating environment. An Arctic force first needs a vessel able to move through ice and survive the pressure placed on its hull. Designing specifically for deliberate ramming would divert attention from the more common icebreaking task. An icebreaker's strong hull and working method already provide a ramming-like capability in the limited circumstances where it is useful.
