Ibuki's air defence and sensors

Ibuki's revised defensive fit replaces six Type 96 25 mm mounts with two Type 98 twin mounts, adds 28-barrel rocket launchers, and combines several radar types with passive hydrophones.

Notes

Initial plans gave Ibuki twenty-two triple Type 96 25 mm mounts, but the design later replaced six mounts with two newer Type 98 twin installations as Allied aircraft became harder to stop. Damage from a 25 mm hit mattered little if the gun could not track and strike a fast target. Four 28-barrel rocket launchers broadened the close-range defensive fit. The electronics plan combined two Type 13 radars with Type 21 and Type 22 sets, while a sound room connected to twelve passive hydrophones added underwater warning. The proposal paired the carrier's aviation role with substantial air defence and detection equipment.
