A hypothetical Type 45 with deeper missile magazines

A proposed heavier weapons fit combines additional Aster and Mark 41 cells with separate CAMM magazines and several gun mounts.

Notes

The proposed Type 45 fit retains the 4.5-inch gun and adds three OTO 76 mm guns and three Phalanx mounts around the ship. Its missile calculation grows from 48 Aster 30 rounds to a suggested 64, with 24 strategic-length Mark 41 cells alongside them. Sixteen Mark 41 cells are described as the number usually discussed, while the higher estimate comes from conversations with naval architects. The resulting 88 larger cells would be supplemented by about 36 CAMM rounds in separate launchers. These estimates describe a hypothetical weapons arrangement, with no detailed design assessment establishing that the complete fit could be installed. The example develops the argument for deeper magazines at construction instead of later additions.
