Flak against high-speed missiles

A fast missile's own speed can make even small impacts destructive, suggesting that flak could complicate a Zircon-style saturation attack.

Notes

The trailer tests a science-fiction idea against the vulnerability of supersonic and hypersonic missiles. Its example assumes a Zircon travelling at Mach 5: a half-gram aluminium fragment would hit far harder than at a few hundred miles per hour. Saturation attacks are meant to overwhelm the limited number of defensive missiles a ship can carry. If a ship can carry much more flak and make the incoming missile's environment hostile enough, speed may turn small impacts and guidance confusion into a serious weakness.
