Hyde Parker's career across three wars

Hyde Parker's service from Pondicherry and Manila to North America and the West Indies explains the experience he brought to Dogger Bank.

Notes

Hyde Parker served through the Seven Years' War, the American War of Independence, and the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War. Parker took part in the captures of Pondicherry and Manila and seized a Spanish treasure ship on the Acapulco-Manila route. He later served as a rear admiral and second-in-command in North America before holding a West Indies station and operating against the French near Martinique. By 1781 he had accumulated roughly a dozen actions in several levels of command. His career ended when HMS Cato disappeared while carrying him toward an East Indies appointment. These postings and battles explain the assessment of Parker as an experienced professional.
