Why the small Huszars still count as destroyers

Their size invited comparison with large or fleet torpedo boats, but the Huszars were designed and operated as destroyers during a period of rapid warship growth.

Notes

Because the Huszars were so small, they are sometimes classified as large or fleet torpedo boats. Their intended role remains the stronger guide: they were built as destroyers and meant to perform destroyer work. Their design timeline overlapped with HMS Dreadnought, when warship size and capability were increasing quickly. This explains how a well-built vessel could still look unusually conservative by the time it entered service. The classification debate shows why displacement alone cannot settle what a navy intended a ship to do.
