The Royal Navy Adriatic Flotilla assembled several Hunt subclasses under HMS Aldenham, showing how extensively the class could operate as a group in confined coastal waters. The flotilla captured the German hospital ship Bonn, formerly the Yugoslav Šumadija. On 9 December 1944, Aldenham and Atherstone bombarded German units on the island of Rab in support of Yugoslav partisans. The episode connects escort-destroyer design to coastal fire support and coalition warfare beyond the convoy duties most closely associated with the Hunts.
